As some of you may remember, a few months back I blogged about Kimiko Beauty's miraculous-sounding concealer which claimed to eradicate undereye woes ranging from fine lines and wrinkles to dark circles in a manner of 30 days.
So is this click pen the stuff of dreams? Did it banish all puffiness and wrinklies? Find out after the jump!
So first I have to admit I probably didn't give Kimiko's Multi-Tasker Treatment Concealer a fair shot in curing all my undereye ailments (dark circles, the onset of fine lines, some puffiness) because I didn't use it on a continuous basis for 30 days. But I promise I have a good excuse for being so lax! And what is it?
Well honestly this stuff is messy. You click the gold button on the side of the pen to release the product, and one click seems to just release waaaaay too much concealer for my liking. Furthermore, without a super emollient eye cream underneath, the feeling (and appearance) of the concealer is reminiscent of thick spackle - it looks dry, doesn't like to spread too well and even pills up a little.
I will admit that Kimiko's Multi-Tasker Treatment Concealer is pretty magical over my Sensai eye cream (but really, what isn't? This stuff is worth its weight in gold), and it never settles into my fine lines, but over any other eye cream it's such a mess that I really can't be bothered with it most mornings. The damage that I feel like I'm doing to my undereye area attempting to blend this just isn't worth concealing a few dark circles for.
Overall I didn't see much of a difference at all in my undereye area - the same fine lines are there, I still have some dark circles and my undereyes get just as puffy towards the end of the day.
So the photo above illustrates what the concealer looks like over one of my random eye creams (not the Sensai). Once blended it does look pretty good on and stays put really well, but for me it's a bit more of a hassle that I'd like. Then again I'd take my opinion with a grain of salt since I actually haven't tried all too many undereye concealers and have yet to find one that I actually like. If any of you one that you love I'd so appreciate your sharing in the comments!
Kimiko 'Multi-Tasker Treatment Concealer' Review & Swatches
This review contains a press sample sent to ABS by the brand's PR representative for blog consideration. Sadly I just wasn't a huge fan although the packaging is really clever and adorable. I have allergies so even if I get 10 hours of sleep I always look exhausted. I use MUFE full cover concealer under my eyes (and under my foundation). Then over my foundation I use YSL touche eclat and then a light dusting of loose powder over my entire face and under eyes(currently using Laura Mercier translucent). This probably sounds like a lot of work but it lasts for 12 hours and is as close to flawless as I can get in the eye area.
Barbie_slayer I hardly ever wear undereye concealer but lately I've been feeling like it would probably help give me a more polished look. I've heard good things about the MUFE and the Touche Eclat - I may need to give both of those a shot. Do they blend nicely? I didn't like how dry-feeling the Kimiko was going on.
it's a shame, because the packaging is oober pretty~ :P
but yeah, there's nothing worse than pulling and stretching your delicate undereye skin every day. a drugstore concealer that really surprised me with it's quality is maybelline's age rewind concealer (with the double ended wand, one for concealing, & one for highlighting) my mom had gotten it to try it out, and ofcourse i used some of it too :P. i also have been trying out nyx concealer in a jar- it's creamy and for only 5 bucks, you can't lose!
Ezzie isn't it? I loved the push-button side as opposed to the usual bottom click.
Yeah I hate any product that necessitates pulling/tugging at my delicate undereye - I'm trying to avoid wrinkles at all costs here!
I also love Maybelline's age rewind concealer. The price is right and it doesn't crease in my fine lines. Love it!
I doesn't look it would blend well on its own. I can tell you that most good concealers for the undereye are aren't like that. It should go on smoothly. Heck, the Hard Candy concealer palette I picked up at Wal-Mart looks creamier than this Kimiko stuff.
Jen I do find that they blend nicely. I use both a foundation brush and a sponge to blend. My skin is on the drier side and I use MUFE matte velvet foundation which is typically for oily skin to give you an idea. I do use a good amount of moisturizer for my undereyes but I never have any problems with settling in my fine lines or getting cakey. What I love about MUFE full cover concealer is a little goes a long way!
Miss Boom that sounds like one product that I need to check out!
Deb it looks really thick and dry doesn't it? And it feels pretty much exactly that way - not all that pleasant at all.
Barbie_slayer thanks so much for coming back to answer my questions! I always wear eye cream bu the Kimiko really needs something SUPER emollient underneath or else it's not budging. So hard to work with!
After I read about it previously on your blog, I went ahead and purchased it. I was very disappointed -- basically for the same reasons you wrote about. The only time it seems to work better is actually over your foundation. It is very thick, difficult to work with. The pen releases way too much concealer and the consistency is very thick. Wish I had waited for your review!!
Awww E.P. I'm sorry to hear that, and sorry I took so long to get this up! Yeah it really is very very thick and tough to work with - almost gummy, right?
Definitely try mixing it over a nice emollient eye cream, although I've pretty much given up on this. It's a pain in the butt!
Doesn't sound soo good, or look so good either. It looks so thick in the picture! It'll take me ages to blend in!! I agree with some of the previous commenters. The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfecter is pretty good for the price.
Jen, I agree with you about putting something emollient under this Kimiko concealer, but I've never found it hard to get on or had to tug. I only use a bit at a time and tap it in ... I love how it sets and doesn't disappear by the end of the day - every other concealer I've tried slides around!
Lisa I totally missed this comment but I'm here to respond now!
I still need to check out that Maybelline - I keep forgetting!
MissyM I must admit that this did stay put remarkably well throughout the day. Maybe I'll give it another shot - I also had issues with one pump releasing WAAAAYYY too much product which may have also led to more cakiness. Maybe I just need to be more patient.
